i was wondering if it is safe to put a turbo on my truck with 278,xxx miles, i think it's too high and it might not handle the power. or would the increasein hp be ok for my engine with a stock size turbo?

Myself, I'd go for it... I put a turbo on a truck with 130K on it, and it even had cracks in the main webs... I've put 30K on it since, and aside from using a little oil, the ol' truck runs great. I'm sure it will last a while, doubt adding the turbo will cause you to lose to meny miles... if you would have gotten 350K out of it with out a turbo, and adding the turbo makes it last to 325K, are ya that much worse off? I know the added power would make it worth it to me... even at the loss of 25K. Gives ya a good reason to rebuild it then!
Good luck!

If you're doing all the work yourself, it's certainly up to you. If you're paying for the work to be performed and will be paying for head gaskets and work etc should that failure arrise, then I'd certainly say no.

I was just wondering the same thing myself. I have 197,000 on my old buddy. He runs great, always starts right up and has 400 pounds compression on all 8 cylinders.
