I have to ask what is rare about this truck? Not that I am challenging you but that I do not understand the part about rare.

'Cause it's mine

Seriously, I haven't seen many 6.5 3/4 ton shortboxes that are 5-spd manuals, and loaded...

In fact that's why I ordered it...

Thanks. Joe.

defiantely a little harder to find the 5spd with the 6.5L than an auto

What major maintenance items have been addressed, besides the clutch? What is will be due soon - or hasn't been replaced yet that you'd expect by now?

Probably the main item would be the Injection Pump was replaced under warranty at about 117k, about 4 years ago. I did the injectors at 102k. Glow plugs are Kennedy quick heats done around then also.

I just did the front brakes (new rotors and pads) last summer, less than 10k on them. The rears are still original - this truck has been really easy on brakes, probably due to the manual trans. Also, the majority of the miles were empty highway type commuting.

The pitman and idler arm were replaced about three years ago at 131k and I just had it aligned again.

I've always serviced the rear diff. every 20k or so, and the front diff., transfer case, and transmission ~ every 50k. The transfer case was cleaned/re-sealed when the clutch was done a couple years ago.

I replaced the oil cooler lines with OEM about 3 years ago at 126k.

The water pump, timing chain, starter, and alternator (can you believe it, given GM's poor track record!) are still original.

I've typically used this truck to commute empty or tow my 5th wheel in the summers periodically, ~ 8k in weight. I had Kennedy's large intercooler installed for this, for almost 100k (I just took this off as it's going on my newer (2000), gulp..., 6.5, I just purchased.

Other than the typical oil cooler line issues, I've been real pleased with its reliability.

Thanks and let me know of other questions.

Joe.

If I remember correctly (Ihave the 5 spd as well) only about 7% of diesel trucks have the 5speed -- the rest of you are just plain lazy LOL, Seriously when I was looking for mine there were not any around period.

Wow...I think I'd go back to a 6.5 for this truck. I read 'intercooler' and was :eek::eek::eek::eek: then I saw you removed it :(.

Let me show this to my old man...

are you the original owner? I assume so since you say you 'ordered' it...but just want to verify

Sorry,

I've been out of town and will be for a few more days so I may not be able to update often...

Yes, I'm the original owner and have tried to be meticulous with maintenance. I have all my records.

It's a fun truck, even with the IC removed....

Thanks. Joe.

Wow! I know it took me awhile to find mine, but I didn't realize there were that few of them...

That is a low number. But this is a sweet truck, if I could get away with another vehicle in the driveway.........
