How do I tell a dual mass flywheel from a solid one? I pulled the clutch and flywheel from my 93 6.5 and the clutch off of my 98 and both flywheels look the same. the number on the flywheel on the 93 is 14050525N. I'm sure the 98 is the same as they look identical. Both clutch disc had springs.
What are the differences between flywheels?
Thanks

The dual-mass flywheel is made using two separate pieces that absorb torque impulses via springs or rubber (I've not seen one taken apart). The matching clutch plate does not have springs in the hub area.

The new single-piece FW is one solid unit and the clutch plate contains a series of springs in the hub area. ;)

Thanks,
Looks like mine are both single mass flywheels.

Yes you have two solid flywheels. The dual mass flywheel has six spings on the back side (crank side) and 13 allen head bolts inset into the friction surface. Both sides will also move (by hand) 1/8 to 1/4 of an inch untill the spings make contact. Looks like your 93 was retrofitted before you bought it.
