View Full Version : 98 GMC 3500 Lift options
I've heard rumors that my truck's front end springs are rated as heavy duty springs and that there are actual "Diesel" rated spring available that will lift the front end a couple inches. Does anyone have any info on this?
Thanks!

Welcome to the board!
Is this a "diesel" truck?
There was a "snow plow" option at one point in the 90's. These heavy duty torsion bars are more for increasing load carrying ability, not lifting the front. The geometry of IFS is such that there are limits to articulation angles, and an ideal zone exists that provides for best driveability and IFS component life. Lifting the front a couple of inches above stock could shorten the life of the CV shafts, ball joints and tierod ends, in addition to making the ride noticeably harsher.
A better lift would involve an IFS lift kit. This moves the whole IFS component package down, while maintaining IFS angularity.

Thanks for the reply.
yes it is a diesel. I'll look into the IFS lift kits. Just don't want to spend a lot of money on this but I know lifting and independent suspension front end is costly, and the last thing I want to do is shorten the live of the truck. If it makes any difference, I'm looking to only do a 2-3" lift so I think it's a relatively simple job, I hope. But there don't seem to be many option for a 3500 8 lug 2"lift kit
- Cheers!
