I have a 94 Chev Cheyenne K3500 with manuel transmission.
A couple of days ago it started to feel like the there was play somewhere in the drivetrain/clutch/transfer case. While driving downhill and half coasting in 3rd or 4th, there is a quick 'clang' like the whole bell housing is moving around or something. I was starting to become worried and checked underneath and saw nothing superficially.

So today was on my way out off town and she was driving great. I was half thinking she mighty have fixed herself, when all of the sudden as I'm cruising down moderate grade doing 60mph there is quick grinding noise then nothing!

I pulled over onto nice shoulder and found that I had no gears. The engine was running the same but when I release clutch while in gear it acts as if I am still in neutral. I turned it off and on and still no gears. Then 20 minutes later I turned it on and I had gears now but they were only low range?! I was effectively in 2 low. My 4x4 stick shift was in Neutral and I could not move it anywhere else. So I made it back home with top speed of 25mph.

Do I need to adjust clutch linkage? Or something else?

The previous owner had new clutch put in.

thanks!

sounds like the transfer case has piled up. what model of case do you have--chain drive or gear drive

Not sure if chain or gear.

Big difference in potential consequence?
