which transfer case fits?

i have a 01 dmax that needs a transfer case. my question is will a case from an 6.0 gas truck fit or is the case specific to the allison tranny? just thought it would be cheaper and easier to find used.:(

Specific to Allison. Rebuilds with warranty run about $1500 around here.

I don't know which TC is behind the 6.0L trannies, but if it's a NVG 261 (manual shift) or 263 (electric button shift), it should fit. You may need to swap the adapter (part that bolts between the tranny and TC). The Auto-4x4 TC (1500/2500 non HD, NP-246?) won't work. The 8.1L's use the same as the Duramax trucks. I'd be suspicious if one is cheaper than the other.

Sorry for leading you astray - sounds like the tcases are the same, you just need the right adapter.

Learn something every day. My reman must have had the adapter and the tcase? Anyway I am sure it was $1500...lol

found 3 within driving distance for 1250 to 1400. i can tell you the first thing i will do is put kennedys pump fix in it. anyway thanks for the info guys:D
