97 C3500 Dually. Originally we planned on a 5th wheel but ended up with a traditional (albeit 34') travel trailer instead.

So, of course, with only 1000 pounds of tongue weight on the hitch (I deadload, no weight distribution bars) the truck still rides fairly rough. With a 7000 mile trip out west planned for this coming summer I'm looking at some options on how to smooth things out.

I've read a few threads about removing leafs in the rear to accomplish this - can anyone elaborate on the results of this, and how many I should look at taking out to suit my requirements? I'm probably going to have about 500 pounds of stuff in the box (generator, extra fuel jugs, etc) which means I really only need rear suspension capacity for about 1500 pounds.

I don't want to go so soft that I bottom out the tongue of the trailer while going over bumps, but I'd also like to take some of the harshness out of the backend since we won't have all the pin weight of a fiver.

Thoughts?
