Hello all!
I have a 94 6.5 TD I've put about 7000.00 into this truck(2500).
This is my question; When I start it in the morning after being plugged in all night, it will start right up with a little bit of burbling. But the smoke just pours out of it. It is a blue color, just like a gas motor with bad valve seals. It does have some white smoke also but not a whole lot. After the motor is good and warmed up, the smoke completly stops.
I need to do some towing with it but now I'm kind of afraid to.
The truck has 163000 miles on it but I was told the motor was rebuilt shortly before I got it.
Any help you can give me would be great.

Does it really rattle on cold start. PCM advances timming to stop smoke which causes it to rattle, may be cts (coolant temp sensor) not giving proper reading

Several things come to mind here but first off I would have a look at the injectors.

A set of injectors that are badly used up will cause exactly what you describe.

Aere you getting any DTC's (SES light coming on)

Yank the injectors and replace with a fresh set or have yours tested.
If they have over 100K on them I would opt for a fresh set.

Cold starts with a set of injectors that are very low in POP pressure and have a poor spray pattern will cause lots of smoke on startup.

Poor injectors can cause other issues as well, such as poor power and a loss of MPG.

Best
