View Full Version : Still stalls while driving

I did what you said and changed the fuel filter. Here's what it is doing, it is starting to get worse now. As I went to the store and back, (about 5 miles one way), on the way home doing about 60 mi. an hour the truck jerked about 2 to 3 times in a row and then the engine shut off. As I was still doing about 50 mi. an hour the truck starts back up. I didn't get about three hundred yards and it stalled again, again it started back up. With about a mile to go to get home it did not stall again. One thing I have noticed is that it only dies when it is traveling at higher speeds, never when it as at an Idol. I don't think that this has any thing to do with it, but when I'm traveling between 35 and 55 miles per hour and holding the throttle steady, I get a whistling noise that is fairly loud. I'm hoping that it has something to do with the flex tubes for the intercooler but don't know for sure. If you let off the gas or speed up the whistle goes away. Hope you guys can help!

I guess I forgot to mention that this is a 2002 chevy Duramax Silverado w/ 156,000 miles on it.

What happend was when I put the fuel filter on, and attached the WIF sensor, I overtightened it. This created an air leak at higher RPM's but not at lower idol speeds. So I got schooled at the local dealership, when you put the sensor on, you thread it up by hand till it stops, then take you your channel locks, and give the sensor anouther 1/2 a revolution. This all that is needed to seat it.
The origonal problem that lead up to my first post was also a problem with the old sensor as well. Evidently the previous owner also over tightend it, or quite possible the sensor was just going bad and not allowing to seal. Specifically in the O ring portions of the sensor.

It's water under the bridge now, but may not be for the future......

There are a couple options for R/R'ing the sensor/drain fitting. Channel Locks are OK, but they take a toll over time (kinda' rough on the plastic). There are several sources for a wrench specifically designed for the fitting. www.kennedydiesel.com has one. Nice tool.
