View Full Version : Trans cooler ports - 700R4
Which port for the cooler lines is the out and which is the return on a 700R4.
The 700's I've worked on had the return attached to the top of the radiator, opposite from the 4L80E. (Ask me how I know...)
Actually I would like to know what ports on the trans are out and return?
I was not clear, my fault.
I have several books on the 700R and none of them tell which port is which.
Save any trouble, just unhook the lines at the cooler and stuff on a piece of hose and cram the lines in a bucket and have someone start the rig (In Neutral) and see which line squirts, then trace it back to the tranny.
You won't even have to run the thing more than a few seconds.
You will then know for absolute sure which is the feed and which is the return.
I have looked on the net and found differing stories so the visual is definately the best shot.

This trans is in the Jeep conversion and it is not operable yet. I am running two coolers and not using the radiator, figure it will be taxed enough with the engine heat.
The two coolers are stacked but offset about 1/2 top to bottom. I would like the fluid to flow through the rear cooler first and then the front cooler. The Jeep had this same set up but went first to the radiator then a separate cooler, which will become number 1 (rear) in my configuration. Guess I can hook up and always change later, I have a 50/50 chance of getting it right. I am bending new lines, I'll leave enough hose to go to both lines feeding and exiting the coolers.
Thanks Robyn & John,
HANS
