Hey all I posted over a CK5 but thought I would a faster answer here. I have an 84 former cucv blazer I bought off someone. I got about 3 good turn from the engine then the New battery started to go and finally I got the click click click of death.
Do I need 2 batteries? How can I find out if starter is a 24v or 12v? thanks for any info
I checked the glow plugs with a test light and they seem good.

I only have the one battery, and im starting to think this may be a big problem for me. It seemed to work when i bought it but may need to go back to a parrell dual battert set up.
Im also thinking of going with new wider cables

A healthy 6.2/6.5 will start fine in warmer weather on one new/good battery. If it was starting fine, and progressively got worse, your battery situation, as well as wiring/ground condition, could explain it. You really need both batteries and healthy wiring to be reliable.

reliability is what im going for. I need the 2 batteries bascically for the starter correct? How would I go about wiring up 2 batteries but not go 24 volt. sorry for all the newby questions but im trying to learn

2 batteries:
Parallel = 12V
Series = 24 volts
Parallel: Each battery has independent grounds. Positive cable from one battery connects to the positive lug on the other battery, then from that lug to the starter. 12V.
Series: One battery is grounded. The positive terminal of that battery connects to the negative terminal of the other battery. The positive terminal of the other battery connects to the starter. 24V.
You could wire two 6V batteries in series for a 12V system, as well.
The GM OEM dual battery systems are parallel. The driver side battery is grounded, and the cable runs along the upper radiator support to the passenger side battery positive, then continues to the starter. There are 2 positive cables, one between the batteries, and one from the passenger side battery to the starter. Both are independently grounded, one to the engine block or manifold bolt, the other to the frame. Also make sure you have a bonding strap (heavy ground wire, usually a flat braided bare wire) from the engine to the firewall.
