I didn't know where else to post this, so I hope this is in the right location.
Anyway, I have the Chevrolet decal strip across my whole tailgate that is starting to come off in spots. The truck is also a GMC (that's another story). My question is, is the decal strip just glued on, or are there screws that hold it on as well? I would like to take it off, but don't want to just start prying as there might be screws holding it on.

Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks.

No screws. They stopped "fastening" them on in the 70's. I'd have to see which one you are referring to, but at the most, it will have tabs/toggles inserted into the sheet metal, and they break off if you look at them wrong. Most of the late models (90's an later) are just stuck on with double side adhesive tape.

You can use a hair dryer or heat gun to soften the adhesive, and a fine wire (piano/guitar) to separate the tape. Be very careful if you use a heat gun, as it can blister the paint if you let it get too hot. There are also solvents available to dissolve the adhesive, but they can damage the paint finish or top coat. Your local body shop will be able to tell you everything you need to know about this.

In most cases, WD-40 works well to remove the adhesive residue. I have used both WD-40 and Acetone. Acetone melts the glue and makes a sticky mess on your rags and/or shop rags. WD-40 allows the adhesive to come off looking like 'boogers'.
