I'm wondering if there is an economical turbo 4 diesel that would be sufficient to power a F150 2WD truck. Truck is used in rural area and tows no more than 3500 Lbs ocassionally.

I was wondering if the 4 cylinder turbo diesel in the Jeep liberty might be an engine that could replace the small V8 in my Ford? I know those motors make more torque than my small V8. Or perhaps there are some commecial motors that might work?

I was thinking of converting to small diesel and then having plug in electric hybrid added.

Nissan had an inline 6, 3.3l diesel which could be mated to an NP435 transmission.

Nissan had an inline 6, 3.3l diesel which could be mated to an NP435 transmission.

A friend had one of those in his Jeep CJ. He just pulled in and replaced it with a 4bt because the 3.3 didn't produce enough power.

I have seen 4bt engines stuffed into F150. Actually fit quite well. Try a google search.
