View Full Version : Interior lights inop when opening doors

Haven't posted here in a while, as our '02 has been rock-solid dependable, and we've had other projects to work on. Anyway, while cleaning up from a commercial pyrotechnics display I help with every 4th, I noticed the interior lights didn't come on when I open _either_ door. The lights appear to function properly when I unlock and lock the doors with the key fob, but not when I open either door. I'd figure if one, or the other door didn't turn the lights on, that'd indicate a door switch, but both?
Any thoughts? Any ways to troubleshoot? Thanks for all help.

Try that little button just below the headlamp knob. If you push it once and the dome doesn't come on, it may be bad (headlamp cluster switch). Could be a number of things, but that's the best place to look first (and usually the last).

Even if everything works when I press the lock, and unlock button on the key fob?

I agree with DMAXMAVERIC. That button disables all of the lights that comes on when you open the door. I hit that thing on a regualr basis with my knee when I get in and out.

The button only disables the dome/courtesy lamps with door open/close events. Everything else works, button in or out. It's on/off, not a momentary switch, like the fog lamps or rear defog. Once it's pushed, it'll stay in that setting until pushed again.

That did it! Thanks! I was afraid I was going to have to dive into the wires and start checking circuits. I guess I hit it when getting out of it once. I do sit kind of close to the wheel. Glad it was that easy to fix. I am surprised that even though we've had the truck since new, that's the first time that's happened.
We really don't drive it that much, though, it only has about 51K miles on it.
Thanks again,
