No, the aux. restraint one !!!! LOL. The air bag light on the dash stay's on, not all the time , but once in a while comes on , then won't go out usually, but sometimes it does ???? Any one have ideas as to what is going on, or what to check. I don't want to screw around with it and have it discharge, that would be a very bad thing !! Is this one of the times I should see the dealer ? Or cover the light with tape ? Thanks All.
This is for your 95? You MAY be able to use the TechII scan tool to get the code, but best to bring to your dealer. Some of the earlier models (mid and early 90s GMs) were diagnosed through the same plug as your engine. It could be the airbag module in the steering wheel, the clocking ring in the column, the "black box" (ECU), or one of the electro-mechanical sensors. Could also be a short in the wiring, the wiring is yellow and may have a yellow loom.
You could easily check all the wiring connections, just be sure to disconnect the battery and wait at least 1 minute. There is a reserve power source with has to discharge. IIRC, the ECU of that era must get a signal from at least two sensors before firing the bag, but one could fire the bag by shorting the wires in the column when the battery is connected.
The airbag is a small rocket and should not be taken lightly. It can cause major injury if not handled correctly.
