Diesel Power at Forefront of Hurricane Emergency Preparedness, Rescue and Recovery

From Houston and Galveston to areas inland and all along the gulf coast, diesel engines of all shapes and sizes are being readied to aid the region’s hurricane emergency preparedness and response. Emergency back-up diesel generators with will support a wide variety of public safety services before, during and after the storm. Emergency operations centers, hospitals, water pumps, most fire and rescue vehicles and heavy construction equipment also rely on diesel power.
Diesel is the unique technology of choice for emergency generators because of its self-contained fuel supply, reliability/durability and ability to handle heavy electrical loads.

Pennsylvania Governor Encourages Greater State Biodiesel Production and Usage
This summer Pennsylvania Governor Edward G. Rendell signed legislation to spur biodiesel production and usage in the state. Under the new law, the state will invest $5.3 million annually in Pennsylvania biodiesel producers through 2011. These companies will be able to take advantage of a 75 cents-per-gallon subsidy that will be capped at $1.9 million per year per producer.
The law also establishes statewide biodiesel blend mandate tied to in-state production levels, ranging from 2 percent when in-state production reaches 40 million gallons and rising to 20 percent when it reaches 400 million gallons.
