6.2L (castings) numbers

Hi everybody,


Like to know what the engine (castings) numbers have to tell me.
How do I know a build year of a 6.2L diesel GM engine?
Where can i read more information about my GM engines:confused:

Somebody who can tell me that?

A quick search in the 6.2 forum would grant you the numbers I'm sure.

The quick n dirty answer is that most 6.2's casting number ends in 660, or possibly 599 (rare).

A 6.2 with a casting number ending in 599 would be very late 90-94 and will have a one piece rear main seal.

The 660 is what you will see the most of. If it was originally painted Red then it was built early,82-83

The date code will also be stamped on the block too.
