Hi. I need to change my water pump. So whats the trick to remove the fan?

Just a friendly question? Do you have the rest of the special tools to replace the water pump? You need to pull the starter and install the flywheel holding tool so that you brake the crank pulley bolt loose. It is torqued to 260 ft. Lb. and you cannot get an impact gun to fit down there. That is why I bought a 3/4 inch drive ratchet and a 36mm socket for that job. The fan comes off by holding the pulley in place with another special tool and then brake the fan clutch nut loose by turning it counter clockwise. Righty tighty, lefty loosey.

No. I dont have any of the tools. My dad might have a 1 7/16" socket.

You should have a 36mm socket handy. It's also needed for the front hub/axle nut.

Snap On/Blue Point has a nice fan hub removal kit that uses an air impact driver. Works quite well as holding the pulley securely enough to resist the breakaway TQ needed can be quite tough.

I bouth the Snap On solid bar (36"?) with the long handle and switchable breaker bar or ratchet head. Works well for things like this.

You still need the Kent-Moore J-44643 flywheel holding tool to hold the crank while you loosen and torque the crank balancer bolt. :)

It can be done w/o the flywheel holding tool as well. i use a tool I made to bar big Cummins engines over to hold the pully so i don't have to remove the starter.

Where do you buy the fan clutch holder wrench?
