I am removing my IP and need to access the bolts on the gear through the oil filler hole. What is the best way to bar-over the engine to no damage the torsional damper. Should I remove the damper? Should I remove the glow plugs? Other?

Any help appreciated.

No biggie. Remove as many glow plugs as you can reach. This makes turning much easier, as you don't have to fight (as much) compression. Then, use a socket on the balancer (damper) bolt. You won't loosen or damage it. Turn it only clockwise, if it concerns you.

Thanks, worked like a charm...

A socket and 1/2" rachet on the alternator pulley nut works great, I have changed many pumps this way :)
