Will this pump work on a 1994 6.5 turbo diesel?Used Stanadyne GM 6.5L DS4 electronic diesel fuel injection pump with PMD, This pump came off a running 96 Chevy 6.5 turbo diesel. It also fits the GMC and I believe the Hummer H1. Can be used as is or for a good core. The numbers on the ID plate read as follows; M4 DS4831 S5288 J 8099628 12558156 The PMD number is 30214.

Maybe - maybe not... Your 1994 should have either a DS4-5067 or DS4-5068 (for the HD emissions applications).

The number "DS4831 S5288" is usually abbreviated to DS4-5288. A Stanadyne shop could provide a definitive answer.

The pumps are basically matched to the ECM programing.
The 5068 IP was an Odd duck in some ways.

You can use the pump you mentioned but the chip in the ECM will need to be swapped out to make things work right.

John Kennedy or Bill Heath would be a good place to start as far as what programing will work with which pump.

I swapped the IP on my 94 and had to change the chip.

There is a paper tag on the ECM and the numbers there will match numbers on the chip (under the little cover on 94-95 trucks)

These numbers tell the story on whats what.

If you have a light duty truck, VIN "S", then it will work. If you have a HD truck (VIN "F") the easiest way to tell is look at the pump on there now. If it is the 5068 then you will need a chip upgrade. Otherwise, it has already been upgraded (likely) and you're good to go.
