Unless you got a gage that goes up to 30,000 PSI (that's right, thirty thousand), a fuel pressure gage is useless unless a fuel lift pump is installed (www.kennedydiesel.com (http://www.kennedydiesel.com)). The OEM Duramax does not have fuel pressure from the tank to the high pressure pump. It's suction. A vacuum gage would be helpful, to watch for fuel filter restriction, gelling, or other fuel system diagnostics.

DO NOT, UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES, INSTALL ANYTHING INTO THE FUEL RAIL!!!!

The fuel rail is the "pipe" that connects the high pressure pump to the fuel injectors (there are 2, one for each bank). It is constant flow, and the fuel injectors meter the fuel under full rail pressure, ranging from 4,000 PSI to about 23,000 PSI for an LB7 (later Duramax engines produce about 26,000 PSI). For comparison, late model gas engines with common rail injection produce about 100 PSI, and previous Diesel engine designs (like the GM 6.5L) produce less than 2,500 PSI.
