Is there such a thing as 24v or 12v glow plugs? 1984 military cucv blazer with dual alts and batts.
thanks

Actually, they are 6V and 12V plugs. 6V plugs used on a 12V system, and 12V plugs used on a 24V system. If they didn't do it this way, the plugs would last forever (theoretically), but would take 30 seconds to 2 minutes to develop full heat (the way they were originally designed). The trade off is, shorter lasting plugs for significantly quicker starts.
If you still have the original style OEM GP controller, you need to continue using OEM equivalent plugs (for late models, NOT original series 1984 plugs). If your controller is manual, or adjustable, you can use a "hotter" (lower voltage) plug, because you control the cycle time. At 24V, an AC60G plug will reach full heat in about 4-5 seconds, and further glow time will overheat the plug, causing immediate or premature failure. An AC60G plug takes 10-20 seconds to get hot on a 12V system. The good thing with using late model "thermistor" plugs is, when they overheat, they just quit working. The original plugs in your 1984, when they fail, could, and often do, swell at the tips. This leaves them stuck in the head, and can be a real chore to remove.
All that said, your system may be either 12 or 24V. Originally, it was 24V. It may have been changed to 12V. You need to verify. If it is still 24V, you can easily and inexpensively convert it to 12V (without converting any other system on the truck). Not that a 12V system is better, but parts are more readily available and less expensive.

There is a resistor bank on the center of the firewall this actualy pulls the voltage down to like 14V. The resistor will show 24v when not under amp draw.
You actualy have a "12v" system so use delco 60s, I had to swap out the plug connectors to a 1/4" female tang. You can order the mill spec glow plugs at a surpluss outlet. I think wellman makes those.
I have a write up on a hybrid wire diagram to install the civy controller, but the mil spec controler pc cards are now available through surplus.

Here is a great guide to coverting the CICV series trucks to 12v
