I have done a 3 inch down tube, 4 inch exhaust (no cat or muffler). What should I do next to safely gain more power? I have heard the term "reflash". Is that an option for my year?

Did you modify the aluminum air intake piece or buy one from someone? Is it better to have cold air or warm air. I have heard cold air for power warm air for MPG or KPG. Is there any truth in that?

i modified the original one.
cold air makes better combustion, =more power. the engine will be hot enough with this mod. this makes it breath better.
cold air also keeps engine temp lower when you tow, or floor it..

Okay, snorkel is out. I will check the intake Mon to see if it is restricted. What next? Reflash? Turning up the fuel? Any more ideas? No one I know around here is wrenching on 6.5's. It's all new cummins and power-strokes.

If you have EGR (VIN S engine, 8th digit), you will have the restricted intake. If you have a VIN F engine, you will not. No reason to remove the intake, unless you have reason to believe it's has been changed, our you have the S intake installed, and have an F intake to replace it.

Your 98 1 ton should be a VIN F, and have the open intake.

You did the exhaust & intake and got it breathing better. If it was me the next thing I suggest you do is buy the 3 a-pillar gauges EGT, boost and Tranny temp. Very important to keep your rig in one piece. I bought the 2 6.5 turbo diesel manuals available on this sight. Lots of complete articles on performance upgrades and other stuff you will need to know.

Who is a good vendor to get a set of gauges from?

I looked at a few differnet vendors and I didn't know a 3 gauge set would set a man back like that but I guess its a good idea to monitor your engine if you're fooling around with it.

Yeah. It isn't cheap. But, there could be a higher price tag if you don't.
