I guess this is the spot to introduce myself and tell you what my project is about.

I am currently working on restoring a 1975 Toyota FJ40 Landcruiser (see below for what I started with)

http://i181.photobucket.com/albums/x177/kcustom73/LandCruiser1.jpg

In its current state it sits stripped to the frame. Lots of plans for it:

Engine:GM 6.2L N/A from 89 Vandura, full rebuild
Tranny: 700R4, full rebuild
T-case: stock Toyota + Marlin Crawler Toy box (tranny, t-case adapter + an extra 2.8 gear reduction)
Axles: 3.7
Tires: 33 x 10.5 BFG All-Terrain T/A KO

This gear train combo will give a crawl ratio of about 62 and a cruise RPM of 1800 at my 2 favorite speeds (48MPH/77KMH & 68MPH/109KMH). The gearing was selected so the truck could be at its happy RPM for fuel economy and still give me some room to speed up if needed.

Some of the other major mods planned:
Stretch wheel base 22"
3/4 aluminum tub

That's it for now, hope to be able to pick the brains of the experienced people on this site and to pass on any knowledge that I can along the way.

Now time for some more reading.
