Duramax Head Gaskets

I received the following email asking about a change in the factory GM head gaskets.


I noticed on an earlier Duramax 6.6L head gasket the CO's are measuring 4.125" & on a current GM # 98045057 (right side )
I'm measuring it at 4.145" . Also the gasket appears to have 0.015" valve pocket areas at the 1 o'clock & 4 o'clock position .
Would you happen to know why GM did this ?

GM Service Information Document #2090627 has information on the new style head gaskets. New gaskets have rivets. There is also head bolt torque specs. Document contains pictures of new gaskets. I don't know that this info helps with your measurement questions but was good info for me when my 2001 required new head gaskets (LB7).
