I've got an '01 K2500 HD with ~146K. I lost all fwd/rev drive motion last year ('08) around late March- turned out to be the PRNDL switch on the trans. Now, some 9 months later, my SES light came on, and nothing seemed out of the ordinary at first. However, a couple of hours later when taking another trip, I've noticed the following:
* The tranny shifts somewhat harshly going into D from neutral;
* The truck seems to take off from a stop sluggisly- no "pep", as if there was slippage (may not be starting in 1st gear);
* Going through the different positions via the column shifter, the 3 and 2 positions will not light up on the PRNDL indiator, 1 and R light up, but I noted some intermittent display of the D position;
* I think I'm stuck in a 2nd gear- tranny never shifts after initially starting out from a stop. The tac revs up towards 2300 at ~40 mph and nevery shifts.
* The truck appears to shift into Rev OK;
I haven't taken the truck to the local dealership yet (late Sunday PM now), but I wouldn't be surprised to learn that I went through another PRNDL switch. I heard that there is a cover, a "skid plate" of sorts that can be bolted over the outside of the PRNDL switch. Anyone know of where one of these cover plates can be purchased?
Also, is it difficult to replace the PRNDL switch? I'd prefer to avoid another $600 bill like I bit into last year! Any help would be appreciated. Thanks guys.
