Does anyone know the PSI tolerance for the Tire Pressure Monitoring System? I'm referring to a 2009 Silverado 3500 single rear wheel. The door label says 70 psi rear at max load, but the truck is empty and I don't need that much pressure. I have the rear tires set at 60 psi and the low pressure message keeps coming on. Does anyone know the range you can be in without the light coming on? Thanks!

Interesting question. My unit specifies 80 psi for the rear but I have 65 to soften the ride and even out tire wear across the tread. Only when it is really cold (-5C or lower) and the tires show less than 62 does the warning message show on the DIC. I also wondered if TPMS compares tires on the same axle to identify an imbalance in pressure.

I'm not sure what the tolerance is but the value can be changed.

A fellow in my office has a gas 08 2500HD that came with LT tires. He has installed P rated studded winter tires, purchased from the GM dealer. The dealer was able to adjust the TPMS to deal with the less air pressure permitted with the P rated tires.
