My gage in my 95 3500 TD started acting up today. At times it would read zero at stop lights or idle. It would kick back up again when I would accelerate. No warning light or error codes were thrown. There is of course plenty of oil and no smoke when accelerating. Any ideas on how to diagnose this?

get a known good mechanical gauge on there pronto and find out if it has pressure or not. 10 psi minimum at hot idle and 30 psi minimum hot at cruise. 30 and 45 is more normal.

I agree with John. Get it checked out ASAP or it could be very costly if you have real oil pressure issues.

Yeah I was planing on getting egt anyway. I just was waiting for the cash. But, I suppose waiting now will cost more in the end. IT read pretty normal today 30psi idle-45psi at 60mph 5th gear. Any good deals on gage packages?

Failures related to the oiling system don't just heal up.
Likely your Sending unit is going away.

As mentioned get a mechanical gauge hooked up to a T fitting up front where the turbo oil feed is and run it in a window or hook it under a wiper and do some trial runs.

20 Hot is about normal and 40-45 down the road is good.
Probably the sending unit is going south causing intermitent low readings.

Definately need to get this under scrutiny though
