I'm putting some serious thought into doing a DURAMAX conversion to my 95 K2500 diesel SUBURBAN since the 6.5 has seen MUCH better days. I've done alot of searching here and elsewhere and it looks like the LB7 seems to be the prefferred engine. I have found several 04-05 LLY's for decent money with lower miles, but LB7's are getting tough to find with lower miles.

My question is which generation of DURAMAX is the shortest? I don't want to have to do a bodylift if I can help it, or keep the lift to a minumum. If I go with an 01-02 LB7 I can use that compressor with a set of 99 6.5 A/C lines and keep the height down ALOT in the front of the engine from what I have found. I have also found an LBZ for reasoneable money that is mostly complete, but I they look to be quite a bit taller than the LB7 from pictures. I know it will be a tight fit any route I go, but also from this forum I see it is doable.

And this is the video that inspired me. He made this one completely stand-alone and this is what inspired me to do mine.
