Noober's 94 K2500

Always amazes me the amount of information that I find on new forums....and this is definitely one of the more informative boards I'm currently a member of; especially in the older threads. Anyway, joining in on the fun with a 94 K2500 'Burb......been wanting one for a long time and finally got one. Needs a lot of work but not a bad buy for $1400 I think.

Sorry about the sun glare. Didn't think about that when I took the picture. It needs a decent amount of body work that's not really visible (both rear quarters, rear bumper, both barn doors are damaged and covered with bondo, and a new hood) and the interior needs a good cleaning (nothing a new headliner and carpet wouldn't readily remedy). Already has a failed new PMD (Dorman, SSD heatsink). Have another on the way long with Kennedy's extension harness. Nothing else to tell really...

You can definately afford to drop some $$$$ in the old girl and be able to drive every penny out.

We own a 94 Burb and love it. 260K and rolling.

H2 rims wrapped up in 305/70R17 Maxxis Bighorns which equate out to 34x12.5 or there abouts. A little larger than I anticipated. I kept thinking they were 16s for some reason.:confused: Anyway, still STOCK in the picture. Tomorrow after work time for a 2" budget boost; should help keep some of the form in my fenders and bumper. For anyone a little more inquisitive about fitment I have a few more clearance pictures in my supermotors page.

That's pretty close with the front tires. Are you able to turn much at all?

Lock to lock...so long as I'm on level ground. ;) Maybe about a 1/4 turn or so before making contact I guess, haven't really been paying attention. Been trying really hard not to turn the wheel anymore than necessary. Lack of clearance doesn't really manifest itself until turning onto another road, parking or the like.

I have a 94 Burb and these rigs definately dont have much in the way of room for big tires unless you spend the $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ X 100's to lift them up with a good kit :eek:

Once lifted though the family apeal tends to go away real quick.

Just picked up a set of 285/75R16s on 2002 rims today. Hopefully they'll give a bit more clearance for me! :D

keep in mind, i had military 36's on the truck with no lift and no rub unless i hit a bump while cornering. just put 285's on, and absolutely no rub at all.

12 or 13 turns on the torsion bars(!) with the keys almost maxed out; didn't even get a full 2" out of that. On the rear I have 2" blocks in combination with Monroe Load-adjust shocks, PN 58600 which yielded at least 3" together.

A little more angle that I would like but not much can be done about that right now. Guess I'll be keeping an eye on those ball joints.

A lot taller than I had planned for. Before all I had to do was pull out on the rear door handle. Now I have to pull up. I'm 6'2" and I have to get up on the rear bumper now to turn on the rear cargo lights. I love it. :D I'll have to get some comparo shots of it next to my F150 (6" lift/35" tires).

Didn't have any problems with the previous set of 305/70s but they were on stock 16x7 steelies. 305/70R16 = 33x12.5 there abouts. 305/70R17 = 34x12.5, more or less.

Get some pictures I'd love to see it. I was thinking about a set of those for the 'Burb too but found these first.

It doesn't look that big in the pictures but in person it's a pretty big difference. Definitely a firmer ride now, much better than what it was before IMHO.

if i am going to put a couple blocks on the rear axle do I need to snag some new shocks right away? Also what about the Ubolts, need longer? Never done a IFS lift either. Do i just jack the front up off the ground a and turn the torsion bar bolts in the same number of turns on each side to get the desired ride height? prolly no more than 2 or 3 inches. How would alignment be after that?

You don't HAVE to get longer shocks but I didn't want to take the chance of lifting it the two inches and then maxing out the shocks, not to mention I was in desperate need of new ones, so I got some shocks 2" longer. Would've got just regular shocks but I have a couple hundred pounds worth of junk in the back that I don't know how long will be there, so I wanted to make sure I got something that would help support the weight.

I don't see why you couldn't do the torsion twist with the wheels on the ground but in doing so you'd need a gigantic cheater bar to over come that pressure. I marked my bolts/crossmember with a punch to make telling how many turns a bit simpler. U-bolts will definitely have to be longer. Smart me bought the block kit but didn't think about the shape of the u-bolts. The kit I bought had round u-bolts for springplates on top of the axle. Chevys have spring plates under the axle facilitating the use of square u-bolts. Make sure to pay attention to that.

After 13 turns IIRC, my keys are almost maxed out and I didn't even get a full two inches out of mine. Alignment LOOKS good but looking at it in the parking lot today at work, with the wheels turned, it definitely needs an alignment.

Edit: New torsion keys would be better than a torsion bar twist but I don't know if there are any for 2500s. I see them all over the place for 1500s/k-Blazers/Tahoes but for 2500/3500 no one has anything listed until 99 with the NBS. I couldn't ever find an answer if F150 torsion keys would work on 2500s or not.

Good info thank you. I'm thinking of replacing shocks all around, dual in the front, maybe some reservoir jobs. Could I modify My current torsion bar keys?

If you decide to go with a quad shock setup up front put yourself down for a kidney transplant. You'll need it. I took the Suburban over a set of railroad tracks the other day not much faster than normal and about bounced myself out of the seat. Good things we have seatbelts. One shock up front per side is more than enough, anymore than that with the t-bars cranked up will be unbearable I think. But then again you might like it. To each his own.

AFAIK there is no way to modify the t-bars/keys for extra lift.

Awesome sound namely under full throttle. I don't know what it is but it's got too much air passing through for my liking though. It sounds almost half/half mix of passing air/exhaust sound. Other than that I have no problems. Took just under 4 hours, IIRC, with a trip or two to AutoZone for cut-off wheels or whatever I needed.
