Mark, To bad you didn't try the Pasadena Freeway, 8ft lanes!
Don't miss that area at all. One nigh on my way home on El Toro Road, just about dusk, I was passed by 6 (12ft wide) trucks all loaded with 657 CAT scrapers. 7 axel under the front with 2 axel basket carriers under the rear. They were pedal down tring to get to the jobsite before dark. About 3 minutes behind them was a CHP lights and all trying to catch up.

Yeah buddy. All construction equipment with wide blades are a real dangerous situation on the roads...big can openers, and you know who the tuna is...
Nice thing about boats is our width is way up high, above most traffic. I have seen the rub rail on my boats nearly bang off the side of a semi trailer, in windy conditions, however.
The truck starts his pass, the trailer blocks the cross-wind, you correct your lane position, just as the semi gets hit with a gust...
