Very cool stuff. I am hoping to find a good used TDI for my daughter to drive when she heads off for college next year.

I've run across a few guys over the years at the pumps with mid to late 90's Jettas. A couple of them have stated that they get 60+mpg with only minor tweaks to the injectors! If my little '94 Accord ever takes a turn for the worse - I'll be looking at a Jetta, for sure.

My parents have a TDI Passat wagon ('05 or '04, forget which) that they are very pleased with. They routinely average 40~42 mpg and can average as high as 48 mpg on the Turnpike.

Thats amazing. I have seen some good clean used Jettas for around 10K, with 60-80K miles.
How many miles can a person expect to get out of these cars? Is 200K realistic?

That is my problem. The 98 Accord doesn't break. I have 217k miles on it and it just keeps going.
I'll look afor a VW diesel when the time comes. Interesting info in the link.
Thanks

How 'bout that VW Polo - only available in Europe... right now. I think it's about the size of the Golf - maybe a tad smaller. But it'll get 70mpg! Talk about a Prius stomper!
