A while back, I was bedeviled with intermittent transmission problems, finally culminating in an SES (DTC 1860 code, I believe) and limp mode. Totally random. Checked all the plugs etc, but it was a mystery.
The problem was a crushed transmission wiring harness, probably occurring during assembly (since I never took the engine out). It was located between the bellhousing/engine block and the firewall. Had to get the wiring spliced. Not a problem since.
Don't know if this is of any help, but it is worth a look.
