View Full Version : EGT maxes at 600F???

A few years ago I bought a used egt gage, lead wire, and probe. It's an Isspro R607VW with a 6' lead wire (R660-6') and a threaded probe. Last spring when I finally installed a JK exhaust I also installed the gages. I switched to a clamp on probe and had to get a 10' lead wire (R660-10'). Max egt that I see is 600F??? I know this is not correct, but I haven't had time to deal with it. I tow a boat (2500 lbs) and a small enclosed trailer from time to time so I know temps are higher on occasion. Anyone have any thoughts on what might be the culprit????

I'd say switching from a 6' to a 10' lead may have thrown the calibration off. I have an Auto Meter pyrometer, and the installation instructions said not to change wire length to the probe, as it would effect gauge calibration.

I see in your signature lines that you have a Racor filter mounted pre-lift pump. Any pics by chance??? Does the Racor have a fuel heater??

I do not have any picutures of the install. I'll try to take some this week. I used flare fittings where I cut the existing fuel lines and push-loc fittings on the rubber hoses that go from the fuel lines to the filter. This was the first time that I used flare fittings, no leaks on the first try!!! Also, my filter does not have a heater. I use FPPF Total Power fuel supplement year-round. I have not had any gelling problems.

Isspro says that the length of the leadwire doesn't matter. They recommend cleaning all wire connections, so I'll give that a try. Thanks

Your EGR values looks like what I got last year when I installed my Pyro meter. I have the same meter and 10' connection wire. The thermocouple probe was causing my low readings. First probe installed was an ISSPRO R650. I contacted ISSPRO engineering, and after some discussion, the length of the probe vs the diameter of my crossover pipe came up. I had installed the probe touching/ crammed into the wall of the pipe. This changed the thermocouple response by adding the exhaust pipe into the equation (cooler surface). Solution was to get a adjustable depth probe(R658) and place the tip in the center of the flow in the downpipe. I had placed a 2 1/2 inch probe into a 2 1/2 inch downpipe on the drivers side. After doing this, It has responded very well.

By the way, my kids like the 607VW gauge a lot. They watch the gauge for me from the back seats and let me know what color the needle is in. Great sport for them, and I can keep a bit more of an eye on the rest of what is going on around me. It also alerts me to take a look they think the temps are getting a bit high.
