Hi All

Just become a member:D

My ride is a Landrover defender with a GMC 6.5 V8 turbo here are some photos
Just got some probs to sort out, has any one got some GOOD ideas to get out glow plugs, as i have 2 that have expanded tips and wont pull thro the holes.

also some good info on timing the 6.5 mechanical pump type, as i have just fitted a new turbo GM3 type and seated the turbo at the rear of the V something like the HUMMVE, but se
he still seams down on power the engine is new, its been dry stored for 4 years had her running for 6 month on normal assp then turboed her.

any advice welcome

Welcome to the community. This is the place if you have questions about the 6.5. There are some extremely smart and helpful people here that are more then willing to share their knowledge.

Sweet ride. Looks like quite the unit. Looks like it will take you anywhere you want to go.

What country are you from. I'm going to guess Somewhere in the UK. Am I close?? ;)

Welcome to TDP from the State of Oregon :D:):D

The glow issue is easy.
Remove the injectors on the cyls with swolen plugs. Stuff a piece of cloth down into the precup to plug the port to the cylinder.

Break off the plug and then gently drive the broken piece back into the cup with a small punch and a hammer.

Carefull remove the pieces with a magnet or other suitable tool.

Use either 11G or 60G delco plugs. Stay clear of the 9G's as they are the ones that swell.

Now the timing may or may not be an issue.
Does your engine have an NA Injector pump ??

If so was it turned up when the turbo was installed.

The addition of a turbo requires more fuel.

There is a great article in the members section on how to do this.

Timing can be about 3 degrees BTDC

Normally aligning the marks on the IP with those on the housing will get you fairly close.

Beyond that it requires a timing tool that either uses a luminosity probe (goes in the #1 glow plug hole) or a pulse sensor driver that runs a timing light.

You would then time the engine just like a gasser.

Be sure that your engine is warm and the cold advance has shut down and will not effect the settings.

Thanks for the info ill give it a go at the weekend, yes it is a mech IP.
the engine was a none turbo but the guy before me baught it as a tubo engine Kit, ill ave a look at the fueling issue could you direct me to the article?

Always love to see 6.5s swapped into other vehicles and the crewcab Defender pickup is cool - not a model they've ever had over here.

I also like the sliding topper. It seems like I have mine off and on every few weeks depending on what I am using the truck for. Any chance you could post up a couple more pics of the track for that?

Ah... So you are saying that the body style wasn't offered over there either?

Even better! The streetrod crowd calls these "phantoms" - vehicles based on body styles offered later that were never offered for that year/model. Like extended cab 1930s pickups and such.

Looking forward to more photos of the build!

Hi

I did the pump at the weekend i.e give her more fuel by turning the pump up, and great much better responce see drives like a turbo engine should by pining you in the seat when you floor it.

just got to do the glow plugs now

If a document (or image, etc.) is hosted on an online mag, you'll need the publisher's permission to post it elsewhere (there's no such thing as "public domain", unless an item has been expressly released by the originator). No problem linking entire web pages, although individual file links are very likely prohibited.
