I have a 37' 1992 Holiday Rambler Imperial.
It has a 460 EFI Ford gas motor and Fords automatic electronic trans with overdrive.

I am looking at installing a used Cummins or 6.5 into it. Want to have 300 HP minimum.

What is the down side to this ?
I know I could up the 460's 290 hp to 450 hp but it would still be a gas motor......I love diesels...so I am hoping for a few ideas about other diesel power plants.....I am also building a 1600cc VW air cooled engine, to run on LPG, to power a 20KW generator so I can run BOTH a/c's and the other consumables at the same time....
feel free to add your comments.

BTW...Anyone have other www sites that I might check out on these issues ?

Go with the Cummins. The D max would be cool but it would offer nothing a Cummins can't offer and the cost will be more with the D max.

Were it not for the electronics I would say D-Max but any way you look at it the electronics would be a huge PITA to overcome.
A 12 valve cummins however would be a easier conversion and an awesome one at that..............Merle

If you want it my uncle has a truck that just rolled off a big hill. totaled but good engine and trans 5 speed. I think its a 92. cummins. Has some starting problems. I think the pump may be giving problems. Been driving it like tha for 2 years.

If the chassis can handle it I'd do the Cummins.

We just bought a 1992 Georgie Boy Cruise-Master 32' class A motor home. It has the OshKosh chassis and is powered by a 5.9L Cummins, intercooler and P7100 inline injection pump. It also has an Allison AT542 trans running 3.73 gears. Even thou it seems to be missing on a cyl. it would still give a gasser a run for the money, IMO. It has 137K on it and from what I've seen most gassers this size range are tired in the 50-60K range.

One plus with the allison is a reman from the allison dealer is only $1165/exchange.
