I recently cracked the block on my 87 pickup, and I just found a 6.2 out of a early 90s van. The question I have is the vacuum pumps are different. The one on my truck had vacuum lines of it that ran the emission controls which i stripped out and also ran something else? can I switch to the one out of the van which only has an electrical plug on top? I don't like emission controls and want them stripped completly, but I didn't strip the wiring.

The thing in the rear 'vacuum pump' drive with only the electrical connector isn't a vacuum pump. It's the oil pump drive and engine speed signal generator.

Your 87, unless it's a bare-bones base model, or a military model, needs vacuum. Not only for emissions control components, but also for HVAC controls. If you have (or had) A/C, it needs vacuum to operate the HVAC control system. Later models with electronic (push button) HVAC controls don't need vacuum for anything but emission systems. 1994+ TD's needed vacuum for wastegate control.
