WTB - code reader/code tool for a 89-91 GM with the 6.2L?

Need either a code reader or the tool that makes the codes flash on a 89-91 GM truck with the 6.2L diesel. Everyone wants to sell me a OBD-1 reader but no one knows for sure what the diesels would need.

Anybody have something they're not using?

IIRC, the 89's just had an orange light that was on the dash, I think on the left hand side of the steering wheel.

I'm not for certain if it works like the 90+ did. It's a little different.

Yep. Little orange light to the left of the steering column. I'm trying to get something to help me figure out what it's trying to tell me.

Not having much luck on here or CK5's diesel forum as the 89-91 trucks are a bit of a bastard child. I've gotten "they don't have computers" and "rip it out" as my two answers since last week.:o

So it doesn't flash as the later ones do the check light in the instrument cluster when using the paper clip procedure?

Apparently the paperclip trick can't be used. Chilton's specifically says that won't work like the OBD-I gas trucks and you have to use the scan tool or the dohickey that makes the codes flash.

On CK5 you supplied a picture of the light . Since I can't see it , could you post that picture here ? You said that it looked like it was added on , just trying to be sure we are all on the same page ( Diesel Page that is ) .
