We travel all over the country due to work and recently I needed to
get out our 5th wheel Travel Trailer and a good friend offered to "help".
He felt that his Ford 250 would be "adequate" to move the 5er a short distance.
So I let him try it, now note that this is very hard ground and I NEVER got
the trailer off of its jacks. The bump stops of the Fords suspension were
bending their brackets.

So what do you normally use to move that beast?

And what does it weigh axles and pin?

Hmmm...have seen a few going down the road that didn't look much better. Usally Dodges, though. :p

Well I haven't weighed it lately but its 7,000lb kingpin weight is enough to stop a pickup from pulling it! I will admit it is hauling more than they intended!

Here is what pulls it these days;

Either a single screw class 8 or a business class rig is the way to go.

a dually would still be freakishly overload like that. i had 6300 lbs of material in the box of my 3/4 once. i had a full semi truck airbag system set up, and the truck was riding leveled. hit a huge pothole at around 40 mph and blew one of brackets off the axle. the bumper was within a few inches of the ground, scared me pretty bad.

seen a newer f-150 pulling a mobile office trailer once. the hitch was dragging on the ground and i am sure he had very little steering. but, he was cruinsing downhill around a corner with sparks flying when i last saw him. :confused:

i now have the mentality that if my truck can't safely handle the weight, get something that can, don't mess around on the road with an oversized load and other peoples lives on the line.

AMEN!

And by the way now that we have moved in the new house, the truck and trailer are for sale. Cheap too! :cool:
