i saw that someone with a cucv like mine used a racor 445r30 set up in place of the filter box housing used in the cucv, was wondering if anyone had any ideas for the replacement of these crappy fuel filter box housings?

Racor and others offer a wide selection of diesel fuel filter assemblies. Some have even used a "take-off" 6.5L diesel factory fuel filter assy. Whatever you decide to use, I'd get one with a water-in-fuel sensor and a fuel heater if you live somewhere where it gets down to zero or thereabouts.

I used the OEM filter (relocated to the radiator support under the snorkel) as the primary, and mounted a 445 w/2 micron element to the firewall as a secondary. I didn't bother with a fuel heater on either of them, and never had any fuel-related problems during -30F temps in NH winters.
