I've had this tool sitting around with a bunch of other tools I found in a parts suburban, I just found out it's a kent moore static timing guage for a 5.7l diesel?

I have no idea what it does or how to work it??

I don't think it's useful for anything, IIRC it's what you use to make the mark on the tops of the pump mounting boss and mounting ear after you have the pump and engine timing marks lined up.

Nothing other than marking TDC for that particular pump on that particular timing set at that particular point in time.

If it's for a 5.7, it's not going to do much good. If it's actually for a 6.2 (have to verify the part number) then it's usefull when building a new engine when the timing cover and engine block do not match. This establishes the exact timing mark for the IP.

Mainly used in rebuilding engines, part of the assembly process, and only usefull on engines that will use a mechanical injection pump.
