Has anyone fitted the dual bypass filtration system offered by Amsoil? I just finished reading an article in Maxx torque magazine which details the EGR system used in the LMM engine, and why soot levels are higher, and all the reasons that this is NOT GOOD!! It was a very informative read, and sold me on the need for additional oil filteration.
I just received the kit today on UPS, but have not installed it as of yet. It basically consists of 2 spin-on filters--one of which is a bypass filter to help control soot, which on the LMM is much higher than previous models. No doubt, this higher level of soot would not likely be a problem within the vehicles warranty period, but if you plan to keep the truck for any real length of time, this additional filteration could add years to the useful life of the engine. The cost of the kit is not bad, and it remains to be seen as to what my shop will charge for the install.
As far as the warranty is concerned, with proper installation of course, I don't think it would be an issue, especially if you have a good relationship with your dealer.

rugeroid, Welcome to the Forum! :)

There are a fair number of DP forum members here who have installed Oil Bypass Filters including the AMSOIL on their Duramax trucks who can share their experience. (I have an OilGuard on mine - click here for pics (http://rides.webshots.com/album/65003591xTSYrR))

There is also an excellent write-up on the AMSOIL Dual Bypass in TheDieselPage (http://www.thedieselpage.com/) Product Review Section. (http://www.thedieselpage.com/reviews.htm)

And for more general info on Oil Bypass Filters, BobIsTheOilGuy.com (http://www.bobistheoilguy.com/) has one forum dedicated to ByPass Filters - you'll find a wide range of ByPass Filter discussion here. (http://www.bobistheoilguy.com/forums/ubbthreads.php?ubb=postlist&Board=34&page=1)

I've had the amsoil duel filters installed for about 3 years with no problems. The only thing I can tell you is to make sure you use rubber gasket (you can find them at lowes) between the bracket and the install location. Also do not let the hoses touch each other. The DMAX oil pressure volume is so High it will viberate the whole truck and give you a very errrie sound. I have only had to change oil once a year and the annilist reports say change only the filter but I change all my oil to amsoil once a year anyway. Good Luck
