Hunting season is ending and it will be time to put new tires on the new to me truck. Currently running 305/70 16 Firestone Destination AT. They were on the truck when I bought it in October. Once hunting season is over a fishing I will go. This means towing my boat back and forth. I'm looking for a tire to maximize mpg. Size and brand/type suggestions are greatly appreciated.
Truck is a 97 K1500 ext cab, 6.5 TD, 3.73 gears (engine is stock as far as I know)
Thanks,
Keith
For the on / off road driving and towing you do I would recommend either the BFG All Terrain or the BFG Commercial T/A Traction. I run the BFG ATs on my Suburban in a 285/75/16 though probably not the best size for fuel economy on a 6.5 truck. I have run the BFG Commercial T/As on my other trucks in a 265/75/16 (as that is the largest size they come) and feel that the traction is as good or better than the ATs w/o the price markup for popularity that the ATs get. I would go with an E load range for towing and longevity even though it is not "required" with your truck. There are many other brands / models out there that I'm sure others would recommend as well, I have just personally settled onto these two tires as they give me good year round performance on and off road.
