I am going to get a 6.5l oil pump drive to replace the vacuum pump that goes on 6.2l (I will be using the 6.5l serp belt vac pump). The oil pump drives are available with or without RPM sensors.

My question is can I run a tachometer gauge using the oil pump drive with a RPM sensor or is just used for auto tranny computer stuff?

Yes, you can. Actually, it's ideal in your situation. The tach only needs a pulse input to work. Most of them, even OEM's, are adjustable for input calibration. If not, a simple buffer is all that's needed. Summit, Jegs or JC Whitney will have that. You can get one at Radio Shack, but you'll need a shopping list and the know-how to assemble (DIY).
