Help I am looking for a new block for my 99 burb that developed a large cracked in the main at 107,000 mi.
SO WHAT IS THE BEST BLOCK TO START WITH AND WHERE CAN I GET ONE?

The best blocks are the new General Engine Products blocks made after November 2001. They are available at several vendors.

If you plan to increase output, I'd recommend Kennedy Diesel splayed mains. See my current article (http://www.thedieselpage.com/members/features/schoolcraft2.htm) for more details. Kennedy also sells long blocks that are built with the latest GEP block castings.

To add to this: You cannot purchase a bare block anywhere that I am aware of, and if you find a supposed deal, it is likely a reject that was not destroyed.

I'll also note that cylinder heads with new castings mfg in China should also be inspected thoroughly, and potentially suspect for flaws.

RJ - Are you 100% sure about the month/year?

I was going to take a look at a 2nd AMG Block that I found tomorrow. Seller says date is 3-01.

I was under the impression that 2000+ was AMG...
