Hello again,
I am replacing my 6.2 with a 6.5 and was wondering if matters which IP to use?
The 6.2 has a pump with the number DB2-4153
The 6.5 has a pump with the number DB2-829
Both have the number 14050588 on them.

The 6.2 has a Banks kit which I'm installing on the 6.5 which was originally NA.

Thanks...

If your 6.2 pump is in good shape, I would use it.

The 4153 is from the 1982-1983 heavy duty 6.2 engine.
I would seriously consider having the IP gone through and freshened up prior to installing it on your new engine..

The slight differences between the 6.2 and 6.5 will never show. Then "J" pump will make the 6.5 run like a champ.

Hello again, is the 4153 the "j" pump? The 6.2 IP was installed about 40K ago.both trucks ran fine before the swap. I don't have any history on the IP on the 6.5 . All that I know for sure is the 6.5 is a new long block.add on items might be original to the truck. Thanks...

The J pump will work fine even with a turbo. Just turn the fuel screw up 1/4 turn or maybe just a tad more.

There is a little triangle shaped plate on the side of the IP.
Remove the plate and this will afford access to the Fuel screw.
(turn the pump shaft to align the screw with the hole)

With the IP on the engine you have to remove the top of the IP to gain access to the screw.

Now the 6.5 pumps have .310 diameter pumping plungers and the J pumps have .290 diameter plungers.

The J pump tuned up will still give plenty of power (with turbo)

I have seen this done several times and it works fine.

In stock trim the J pump on a turbo engine is gonna leave you a little shy on available power.
