Hi guys,

I am fairly new to this diesel thing. I just bought my 2006 GMC 3/4 Duramax w/ Allison tranny and I would like to know how I would find out with generation of Duramax engine I have? Am I - LB7, LLY, LBZ or LMM? Where can I look on the engine to make sure?

Thanks,

Rod

it would either be an lly or an lbz. under the hood look at the tag on the air cleaner. if it is an lbz it will say 360 horsepower.

Rod(from Kennedydiesel dot com) The simplest way to verify which series you have is the VIN# of the truck. The 8th digit is the engine ID and it will either be a 1, 2, D, or 6.

01-04 LB7 is a 1
04.5-05 LLY is a 2
06 LLY is a 2
06-07 LBZ is a D
07 LMM is a 6 (new body style GMT 900 series

From this day forward REGARDLESS of what the VIN says call it LBZ. If you call it LBZ you will get the correct parts. If you call it LLY you will likely get the wrong parts. The only difference between the two 06 engines is a slight difference in programming. When I do a program I make the LLY and LBZ programming equal so the LLY actually has the most to gain.

P.S. The LLY power level is actually much greater than rated. More like 330-340HP.

I knew that! ;)

The '06 LLY was a marketing ploy to get them through to the end of "Employee Pricing for All"...

Well thanks for the info. I have now figured out it is an LBZ according to my air cleaner sticker and VIN. Thanks very much!
