Would there be any real world benefits running a 3.5" downpipe as opposed to a 3"?

The exit of the turbo will not accept it. My personal feeling is that the 3" downpipe stepped to 3.5 immediately thereafter produces the best results.

Can 3.5" fit in front of the torsion bar cross member?
