When I first bought the suburban I put in new radiator hoses. The truck never did seem to cool that well. Always thought it was just how it was..maybe the radiator was a little dirty. Had it cleaned and flushed-no improvement. Installed a new(er) radiator after it had been cleaned and flow tested. During the swap, I cut off the existing lower radiator hose to find a 5 inch chunk of heater hose in there, up into the connection to the water pump.

So now there is no foriegn hose to restrict the flow and a clean radiator. It's like a new truck. Temps creep a bit above 200* when I pull my camper uphill on a hot day. I'll live with that.

The old radiator has since been cleaned and flow tested. It is just fine, and apparently always was.

Moral of the story: Always look in your new radiator hoses before you install them
