Hello I have a 1982 gmc with a 6.2 . I got the truck about a year ago and the set up has about 50,000 miles on it all new by Gm in seattle back in 98 ,. Anyhow when i buy this truck the driver side tank not working , i soon fix ,unpluged wires. I run the truck on the other tank for some time switcing over for just a few minits at a time some but never realy on it till now .Ten minits later engine stops running no fuel to ip . I pull off the out put line of the fuel pump and there be fuel same at filter just not getting in the ip .. I pull off the top of the ip and there be fuel there. I replace the fuel pump for drill the sysyem starts to pump up to bleed then the same all over again no fuel to the ip. The fuel in the tank is mighty old but i did put a pint of some additive in it some time back .. From what i read the gm ip pumps are not so good and don't like low sulfer or a blended fuel , just dunno , the truck stopped without making a sound or shudder .

I had the same problem or at least similar. If you look at the attached pictures you'll see what can be lurking in your fuel tank. The sock on the fuel pickup for my tank had a crack in the line and the sock had a hole in it, which allowed the sock to fill up with rust flakes.

My truck would at least run on that tank, but put any load on it and the engine would stall with very little warning. I would suggest just running on the passenger tank until you are ready to tear into the fuel system.

Nasty indeed . I hope my ip pump is ok , i have the intake off to get to the fuel line from the filter , just looking for the blokage , dunno much about diesls but read enough that i dont want one .
